Abstract :
We investigate how the deformation of the atom bridge made from magnetic materials between a scanning tunneling microscope tip and a solid surface affects the magnetic state of the bridge within the density functional theory. We calculate the total energy and the magnetic moment of the atom bridge as it is elongated and/or compressed in length. On the basis of the numerical results, we discuss the condition of changes in the magnetic state by the deformation of the bridge.
