Abstract :
Feibelman and Michely [Surf. Sci. 492 (2001) L723] have claimed that the energetics of Pt2 dissociation measured in the field ion microscope actually refer to step edge processes rather than to dissociation on the Pt(1 1 1) plane itself. These claims are based on misunderstandings, and are rejected.
