Abstract :
The growth mechanism of Ag layers on Ta(1 1 1) face and thermal stability of this surface covered with Ag layers has been investigated using AES, LEED, Δφ and STM techniques. It has been found that the layer growth is Stransky–Krastanov type and the transition non-wetting/wetting occurs when the adsorbate layer thickness θ>2 ML. No facets appear due to the annealing.
