Abstract
Adsorbate induced damping of the surface plasmon resonance in small noble particles was studied extending Perssonʹs theory [Surf. Sci. 281 (1993) 153] by taking into account the interband transitions in the dielectric function of the particles. The broadening and shift of the surface plasmon resonance caused by interface effects are significantly influenced by the interband transitions in the case of noble nanoparticles.
