Abstract
The adsorption of acetylene on single-domain Si(0 0 1)-(2 × 1) surfaces has been investigated at room temperature using fully polarization resolved near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy. Two coexisting adsorption species have been observed, which we ascribe to the dimerized and end-bridge structures. In both cases, the Si dimers remain intact and the acetylene carbon atoms rehybridize to sp2.
