  • Abstract
The presence of internal stresses in organic coatings is a current phenomenon that can generate loss of adhesion. In the case of external coatings used to protect pipelines against corrosion over long periods, this parameter must be taken into account because of thin height thickness. Two types of coatings are currently used, a monolayer system and a three-layer system, which have both their advantages and drawbacks. This finite element modelling study aims at comparing these two systems in terms of internal stress generated during the coating application. A model was thus developed to estimate and compare the temperature field, the shrinkage and the stress values in both systems after application. A correlation is then made with the behaviour observed in practice for each system.
