Abstract
This paper deals with the buckling behaviors of hetero-junctioned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and vibrational properties of coiled CNTs with different geometries and boundary conditions. The results cover the mode shapes, critical loads and natural frequencies of the mentioned nanostructures in detail. The well-known molecular mechanics based finite element method is used to conduct simulations and present the results. In the buckling analysis, the results reveal that the length decrement and diameter increment, in general, lead to the higher buckling loads of the hetero-junctioned CNTs. In the vibrational analysis, the results reveal that with increment in the pitch numbers, the natural frequencies decrease. Furthermore, the larger the cross section, the higher the natural frequencies are.
