Abstract
Drift flux methodology has occasionally been used to represent aspects of particulate fluidization. It provides a single, compact tool for relating various situations of captive bed fluidization, co- and counter-current upflow and downflow of fluid and particles, and batch sedimentation of an expanded bed. Bubbling bed systems of type A and B powders differ in important effects from particulate systems, and drift flux diagrams are presented to illustrate those differences.
