Abstract :
Branching of energy relaxation paths in metastable preirradiated solid Ar doped with O2 was studied using a combination of activation spectroscopy methods––thermally stimulated luminescence, thermally and photon-stimulated exoelectron emission. Analysis of the data obtained made it possible to discriminate between surface and bulk electron traps, to elucidate elementary processes involved in the relaxation cascade and to verify the radiation mechanism of energy conversion and transfer from atomic subsystem to electronic one. It was found that recombination of neutral O atoms results in promotion of electrons into the conduction band. A new effect was observed––low temperature desorption from preirradiated solid Ar. It was suggested the effect is due to thermally assisted charge recombination.
