Abstract
Dynamic strength of single lap joints prepared with titanium adherents and Araldite® 2014 adhesive has been determined at different loading rates and temperatures varying from 25 to 100 °C. The joint was subjected to dynamic loading using a split Hopkinson pressure bar in compression. Controlling of the loading rate and equilibrium loading of the joint was achieved by proper pulse shaping. Inspection of the failed joints revealed that the failure was within the adhesive layer. The results of the study indicated that the strength of the joint increases significantly with loading rate. Though there is considerable strength reduction at higher temperature, the dynamic strength at 100 °C is higher than the quasi-static strength at 25 °C.
