Abstract :
In this work, we give a brief description of the theoretical state-of-the-art regarding the excitation of plasmons in nanosystems of cylindrical symmetry. Recent developments are reviewed and put into perspective, with emphasis on fundamental concepts. We show the similarities between cylindrical nanosystems (capillaries, wires and tubes) when a charged particle excites surface and bulk plasmons on them. In particular, we present a resonant effect that can take place for trajectories crossing the nanostructure similar to that found for planar surfaces.
