Abstract :
Carbon mono-oxide (CO) adsorption on a regularly stepped Cu(410) surface was investigated with infrared reflection–absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). CO was adsorbed on Cu(410) molecularly at 96 K and all species were desorbed below 230 K. There were three desorption peaks of CO; high temperature TPD peak (~ 210 K) corresponds to the adsorption on the step edge, while the lower temperature TPD peaks (~ 138 and ~ 170 K) correspond to the adsorption on the terrace. IRAS measurements suggest that CO molecules are adsorbed on the on-top sites.
