BlurFit an Application of Functional Programming to Scientific Analysis

Functional languages offer numerous advantages when applied to scientific programming. Significant reductions in the complexity of the problem expression are possible. The speed of execution is competitive with native C code. The use of a functional programming style allows the investigator to concentrate more on the scientific problem and less on its expression in a computer language. These characteristics were clearly demonstrated in our version of the BlurFit algorithm written in the OCaml language.
