On the existence of moving breathers in one-dimensional anharmonic lattices

The existence of moving breathers is discussed in several anharmonic, atomic lattices, including the Fermi–Pasta–Ulam and Frenkel–Kontorova models. Previous work on this topic is also reviewed. It is concluded that, apart from the integrable case, moving breathers are unlikely to arise over significant time-durations in infinite, one-dimensional crystals.
