Abstract
A lead-free FeAlO3 multiferroic magnetoelectric compound was obtained through the sol–gel technique with subsequent annealing in an oxidative atmosphere. Dielectric investigations revealed a frequency- and temperature-dependent dielectric anomaly, which can be probably coupled to the sample magnetic ordering at around 220 K. These results indicate that the lead-free FeAlO3 magnetoelectric compound, which has a lower environmental impact in comparison to other multiferroics, is a potential candidate to be employed in areas where the magnetoelectric effect can be exploited.
