Abstract :
A reversible structural transition between α – β phases of Mn2V 2O7 single crystals is investigated by means of DSC and magnetic measurements. We suggest that such reversible structural transition in Mn2V 2O7 is a martensitic-like transformation with a large thermal hysteresis, agreeing with a lowering in the crystallographic symmetry from austenite (monoclinic β -phase) to martensite (triclinic α -phase). Further, we note that such martensitic-like transformation observed in Mn2V 2O7 is completely independent of magnetic fields, frequencies, and even heating/cooling rates.
