Abstract :
We present the Heat capacity study of Y 1−xNdxCo2 ( x = 0 , 0.05, 0.1 and 0.5) in the presence of magnetic fields up to 14 T in the temperature range 2–300 K. The zero field C / T versus T 2 for Y Co2 shows a mild upturn below 10 K which enhances with Nd doping up to a critical concentration and vanishes at higher concentrations of Nd where the system shows magnetic ordering in line with NdCo2. The upturn of C / T vanishes at higher magnetic fields. The possible origin of the upturn in C / T is discussed as arising from spin fluctuations in the light of a paramagnon model and magnetic defects induced by the Schottky anomaly.
