Abstract :
The volume dependence of Debye temperature ( θ D ) for hexagonal close packed (hcp) iron is derived using the Burakovsky and Preston model for volume dependence of Gruneisen parameter [L. Burakovsky, D.L. Preston J. Phys. Chem. Sol. 65 (2004) 1581] follows from the assumption that K ∞ ′ (first pressure derivative of isothermal bulk modulus in the infinite pressure limit i.e., P → ∞ ) is the same for all the materials studied. This model is based on the Thomas–Fermi theory for solids at extreme compression. The formula for θ D ( V ) obtained in the present study has been used to determine the results for hcp iron up to a pressure range of 359.5 GPa. The results obtained for θ D ( V ) present a good agreement with the available experimental data.
