Abstract
The thermal characteristics of a porphyrin entrapped sol–gel optical gas sensor are analysed. Kinetic measurements have demonstrated a fast and fully recoverable NO2 sensor with excellent sensitivity at room temperature (176 ppb) together with a large response signal in the ppm range. Mechanistic information regarding the gas sensing action was achieved via kinetic modelling of the adsorption/desorption process.
