Enhanced photophysical effects in indole due to C-6 chemical group substitutions

Indole derivatives display a pronounced photophysical/photochemical sensitivity for substitution of selected chemical groups at C-6, particularly -OH. Earlier, an analogous sensitivity was observed at C-4, in contrast to an insensitivity for substitution of the same groups at C-5.
