Alternative assignments for the vibrational structure of the 3B1-X1A1 band system of SO2

Two assignments for the 3B1-X1A1 band system of SO2 are presented. Vibrational constants for the triplet state are calculated for both assignments. It is shown that both assignments are consistent with existing experimental information on band locations, band intensities, and isotopic shift data. Possible experimental methods to distinguish between the two assignments are briefly discussed.
