Abstract :
The effect of hydrostatic pressure on single-molecule spectra has been studied at 4.4 K for 48 terrylene molecules in a Shpolʹskii matrix, hexadecane. From the average rate of the pressure shift of the single-molecule lines, the low-temperature compressibility of hexadecane has been estimated at 0.037 GPa−1. The shift parameter has been found to be dispersed more widely in hexadecane compared with p-terphenyl. The temperature dependence of the linewidth has also been found to be considerably different among individual molecules. These results are ascribed to the presence of various microscopic environments of terrylene in a Shpolʹskii matrix.
