Alignment detected photofragment yield spectroscopy demonstrated by photodissociation of t-butylnitrite in a supersonic jet

Alignment detected, state-specific photofragment yield spectroscopy is introduced and demonstrated for the S1 photodissociation of t-butylnitrite (CH3)3CONO. For this process the rotational alignment A0(2) of the nascent NO fragment is shown to depend on the initially excited vibronic state of the parent molecule.
