Abstract :
The second-order hyperpolarizability γ of C60 and its derivative C60-poly-aminonitrile was measured using a femtosecond time-resolved optical Kerr effect. The results showed that the optical nonlinearity of C60 was too low to be detected and an up-limit value of 9.0×10−35 esu was offered for its γ. However, a large enhancement of the optical nonlinearity for C60-poly-aminonitrile was observed and the value of its γ was measured to be as large as 3.2×10−33 esu.
