Abstract :
We have grown erbium-doped Gd2O3 single crystal fibres by the laser-heated pedestal growth technique. Green up-converted fluorescence was obtained under CW laser excitation in the 780–860 nm range. Its dynamics is mainly explained by `addition de photons par transfert dʹénergieʹ. Two other processes, the two-photon absorption and the looping mechanism, were found to have a less important role, at least at 797.2 nm excitation.
