Abstract
The production of the negatively charged helium dimer He2− can be enhanced by nearly an order of magnitude by utilizing laser excited alkali metal as charge-exchange material for fast He2+ ions. The enhancement can be attributed to both steps in the charge-exchange reactions converting He2+ via He2 (a3Σu+) to He2− (4Πg).
