Abstract :
Branching fractions are determined for the product NO(A 2Σ+, ν = 0, 1 and 2) and NO(B 2Πr, ν = 0) emissions as a function of ν′ in the title reaction. Using the NO(A 2Π+, ν′ = 0–2 → X2Πr, ν″) γ, Δν = ν′ – ν″ = −4, −5 and −6 and the NO(B 2Πr, ν′ = 0 → X 2Πr, ν″), β, Δν = −6 and −7 band intensities we determine the ratio of γ0/β0 = NA,ν′ = 0/NB,ν′ = 0 = 0.65 ± 0.02 and 0.099 ± 0.004 (1σ) for the energy transfer reactions CO(a 3Π, ν′ = 0) + NO(X 2Πr, ν″ = 0) and CO(a 3Π, ν′ ⩽ 3) + NO(X 2Πr, ν″ = 0), respectively. The NO(A) and NO(B) product distributions from the title reaction are compared with the energy transfer reaction N2(A 3Σu+, ν′) + NO(X 2Πr).
