Abstract :
Ultrathin film growth of squaric acid (H2C4O4) has been attempted on (001) surfaces of various alkali halides. Epitaxial films were obtained on KCl, NaBr and KBr substrates. Ultraviolet optical absorption spectra of the films were strongly dependent on the substrates, suggesting a possibility of modifying correlated hydrogen bonding by `epitaxial pressureʹ.
