Abstract :
Radiation-induced conductivity measurements on hydrated DNA provide evidence for highly mobile charge carriers within the B-DNA superstructure. The lack of anisotropy in the conductivity for aligned fibre samples and the second-order nature of the decay argue against one-dimensional conduction via a ‘π-way’ type mechanism involving electron transport confined to the base-pair core.
