Abstract :
As the main by-product of fullerene, a novel form of solid carbon – the shell of the `cylindrical hard depositʹ was synthesized by electrical arc discharge between two carbon electrodes. The results of the electrochemical intercalation of lithium into the shell in 1 M LiClO4 EC/DEC (50:50) electrolyte are presented here. Our results show that the shell has high irreversible capacity. Complementary analytical techniques, including X-ray diffraction, slow scan rate cyclic voltammetry, constant current charge–discharge tests and ac impedance investigations, were used for full structural characterization of the shell and the electrochemical intercalation of lithium.
