Ultrafast photodissociation of methyl nitrite excited to the S2 state

By exciting the methyl nitrite molecule to the electronic S2 state by 125 fs laser pulses at wavelengths near 200 nm, we have found a decay time of (25±15) fs caused by direct dissociation. The NO fragment is produced in the electronic ground state.
