Abstract :
A novel method for the kinetic study of a chemical reaction, HeI photoelectron spectroscopy (PES), is introduced. The prerequisites for the determination of the kinetic parameters of a chemical reaction using the PES method are: (1) there is a nonoverlapping band in the PE spectra of the reactant and the product; (2) the reaction course can be controlled by changing the temperature of the reaction system. For the isomerisation reaction CH3NC → CH3CN, the parameters obtained by the PES method are in agreement with previous results, indicating that PES is a reliable method to determine kinetic parameters of a chemical reaction. The relative photoionization cross-sections of the bands used for the sample studied are obtained from the value of the intercept in the kinetic equations.
