Abstract :
An analysis of the generalized frequency distribution of hydration water molecules in a 2M aqueous CsCl solution, extracted from results of an inelastic neutron scattering experiment, is presented. The significant area reduction of the low-frequency part and some shift of the libration mode to lower frequencies in comparison with pure water are found, suggesting that Cs+ ion acts as a “structure breaker” disrupting the hydrogen bond network of water molecules comprising its hydration shell.
