Abstract
The method of classical canonical transformations is used to determine the action associated with the tunneling mode in anharmonic potentials. A simple analog of the surface hopping method is suggested to incorporate tunneling effects in classical trajectories. The novel approach is illustrated using a 1D cubic potential.
