Reply to the comment on the inversion of Raman excitation profiles

The Raman amplitude when extended into the complex energy plane can have zeros in the right-half plane. Minimum phase approaches to invert the Raman excitation profile (REP) to recover the Raman amplitude are valid only for the case where the Raman amplitude does not admit zeros in the right-half plane. A minimum phase algorithm applied to a REP gives a unique amplitude, but this amplitude and its corresponding cross-correlation function are wrong if the REP corresponds to a nonminimum phase problem. The minimum phase treatment therefore does not carry all possible physical information for a nonminimum phase REP.
