Photoabsorption and fluorescence excitation spectra of CF3CN in the region of 6–41 eV

Photoabsorption and fluorescence cross sections of CF3CN have been measured in the region of 6–41 eV by using synchrotron radiation. The bands observed have been assigned as the Rydberg transitions of the lone pair electrons on N and F atoms. It has been found that the CN and CF stretching and FCF bending frequencies are excited in the Rydberg states. Emissions from the CN(A2IIIi, B2Σ+ → X2Σ+) transitions have been observed even in the ionization region, and increased at ≈ 22 eV by the ionization of the (2e)−1 and (4a1)−1 valence electrons.
