Abstract
It is demonstrated that electron spin transient nutation experiments can be used to determine the g matrix of an anisotropic spin system. The procedure is based on the fact that the nutation frequencies are proportional to the transition moments, which in turn are functions of the g principal values and principal directions. The recently introduced PEANUT sequence is shown to be particularly well suited for this purpose. The potential of the approach is demonstrated by the measurement of the extremely small perpendicular g value (g⊥ = 0.o4±0.015)_of titanium-doped sapphire.
