A comment on the possible fluorescence of CO2+

The experimental data recently published on CO2+, together with new ab initio calculations performed in this work on the electronic transition moments and spin–orbit constants, have allowed predictions as to what the optical spectrum of CO2+ should be like. Also, it has proven possible to excite preferentially the ion emissions in a supersonic beam of CO relative to those of neutral species. In this way, a set of a few lines was found which could belong to the CO2+ dication.
