Abstract :
The reaction between X2 (XH, D) and CF22+ has been investigated using a crossed beam spectrometer. The relative yields of the bond-forming reaction which produces XCF2+ and the non-dissociative electron transfer reaction, which forms CF2+, have been determined as a function of the collision energy. These relative yields indicate the probability of forming XCF2+ is independent of which isotope of hydrogen is the collision partner, a result consistent with a direct reaction mechanism.
