Photoluminescence of [RhIII(phpy)2(CN)2]− (phpy−=ortho-metalated 2-phenylpyridine anion)

The complex anion [RhIII(phpy)2(CN)2]− with phpy−=2-phenylpyridine anion shows a blue-green photoluminescence at room temperature in solution (λmax=460 and 490 nm, φ≈0.006). The emission originates from a triplet state of the ortho-metalated phenylpyridine ligand.
