An ab initio study of the side chain of Nafion

The bond-breaking reaction energy, vibrational frequency, and excitation energy of the side chain of Nafion were investigated by using ab initio theoretical calculations. We found two bond-breaking reactions that have significantly small endothermicity. We also found that the experimental assignments of vibrational frequency of the Nafion side chain are incomplete.
