Abstract :
A table top high power femtosecond laser system, that produces 130 fs, 100 mJ pulses at 10 Hz repetition rate was used to generate hard X-ray pulses from moving Cu, Mo and W wire targets. The X-ray pulses were focused with a polycapillary X-ray lens onto a 80 μm spot, resulting in a measured increase of about 3 × 103 in the X-ray flux compared to the X-ray flux measured without the X-ray lens. X-ray pulse width measurements reveal that after passing though the X-ray lens the pulse width is in the subpicosecond range. The focused output beam is very well suited for time resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
