Abstract :
A study has been made of the hole scattering rate in cuprate superconductors in terms of a combined effect of the Coulomb interaction and hole–phonon interaction. Using Greenʹs function technique, an approximate expression has been obtained for the hole scattering rate. Numerical calculations of the hole scattering rate are done for different values of the parameters, which are involved in the expression of this quantity. For reasonable values of the interaction parameters, the calculations show that the magnitude of the hole scattering rate is of the same order as observed experimentally and that it increases with decreasing hole doping. It is also found that the hole scattering rate depends on the energy ω like ωm where m changes gradually from m≈2 to m=1 with decreased doping level.
