Abstract :
Lithium has been chemically inserted into compounds of the type α-Fe2−xTixO3 (x<ca. 0.25). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows the partial reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+. 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy shows a decrease in magnitude of the magnetic hyperfine fields characteristic of the α-Fe2O3 structure. Similar results have been recorded from materials of formulation α-Fe2−xMxO3 (M=Sn, Mg).
