Abstract :
Two series of carbosils were prepared under dynamic (in an open rotary reactor) and static (in a high-pressure autoclave) conditions by pyrolysis of 0.01, 0.03, and 0.05 mol of glucose/10 g of mesoporous silica gel Si-100. Synthesised hybrid adsorbents contained from 5.2 to 21.4 wt.% (first series) and 5.6–24.6 wt.% (second series) of pyrocarbon, i.e. a high degree of glucose transformation into carbon matter was achieved. The porous structure of prepared carbosils depends on conditions of pyrolysis (open or enclosed reactor systems), which affect the topography of carbon deposits on the silica matrix. It was also found that on glucose pyrolysis, hydrothermal modification of silica (to a greater extent in the enclosed reactor) takes place simultaneously with carbon grafting.
