Abstract :
Temperature and compositional dependences of the piezoelectric coefficient d 33 and dielectric permittivity ε 33 σ for (001)-oriented (1−x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–xPbTiO3 flux-grown single crystals have been studied in the wide compositional range ( 0.10 ≤ x ≤ 0.40 ) . The effect of multiple configurations of the 71∘ (109∘) domains existing in the ferroelectric 3 m phase on the apparent values of d 33 and ε 33 σ for composition x = 0.33 close to the morphotropic phase boundary is considered. The results obtained enable one to better define the compositional dependence d 33 ( x ) and to interpret inconsistencies in d 33 values reported in the literature.
