Abstract :
The magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of Nd0.2Gd0.8Mn2Ge2 compound were studied by means of X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. The sample was prepared by arc-melting. The compound crystallizes in the tetragonal ThCr2Si2-type structure with a I 4 / m m m space group. Re-entrant ferrimagnetism is observed for the sample. The compensation point has been observed at 82 K. The maximum magnetic entropy change | Δ S max | of Nd0.8Gd0.2Mn2Ge2 is 0.812 J kg−1 K−1 for a field change of 0–1 T.
