Abstract :
Based on sublattice model and thermodynamic data, a modified version of Nishizawaʹs method for calculation of interfacial tension between ceramics (MX) and liquid metal (A) without deliberately differentiating the phase of MX at high temperature is proposed. The interfacial tensions in Si(l)FeO, Si(l)CaO, Si(l)Al2O3, Fe(l)FeO, Fe(l)CaO and Fe(l)Al2O3 systems at 1450°C and 1600°C are calculated by employing this improved method and the calculated values compare well with the experimental data available. For instance, the calculated interfacial tension for Fe(l)Al2O3 at 1600°C is 2.1 J/m2, which is close to the experimental data ranging from 1.9 J/m2 to 2.3 J/m2.
