Abstract
Substrate potential, plasma-po1ymerized hexamethy1disiloxane (PPHMDS) film adhesion strength, partial discharge characteristics, and lifespans of composite films exposed to partial discharges in a sphere-plane electrode system were investigated. Composite films were prepared in a triode glow discharge system by coating the surfaces of polytetraf1uoroethy1ene (PTFE) films with PPHMDS films. The Gleitbüsche1 starting voltage, Vg, and the lifespan of composite films in partial discharge test electrode systems were higher than those of PTFE films. The increase of Vg and lifespans are attributed to the remarkable decrease in the surface resistivity of the films caused by the coating of PPHMDS.
