Abstract
We report on CoCrPt ternary alloy phase formation and changes in magnetic properties of Co/Cr/Pt multilayers due to 1 MeV N+ ion irradiation at room temperature. Irradiation induced changes occurring across the Co/Cr/Pt interfaces are studied by X-ray reflectivity, glancing angle X-ray diffraction, and magneto optical Kerr effect measurements. Irradiation induced mixing across the interface shows an enhancement in the coercivity, sufficient coercivity squareness and magnetic anisotropy. The results are discussed in the realm of ion beam induced recoil mixing across the interfaces.
